Arben Murtezić appointed for the chief disciplinary prosecutor
At its regular session, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council BiH delivered decision on appointment of Arben Murtezic to the position of the chief disciplinary prosecutor at the Office of Disciplinary Prosecutor (ODP) within the HJPCBiH. The appointee shall assume his duty on 1 July 2010.
Arben Murtezić was born in Sarajevo in 1973 where he completed his secondary and high school education and got his Law School degree at the University in Sarajevo. He passed judicial qualification exam in 2004. Prior to this nomination he held position of Deputy Chief Disciplinary Prosecutor. Prior to that he was the Head of Legal Affairs Unit within the Secretariat HJPC and legal advisor at the Ombudsmen Institution for Human Rights BiH. He has also been a long-term lecturer at the Center for education of judges and prosecutors; he is an author of several legal publications and also a lecturer at number of international seminars.
According to the Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council BiH, at the position of the chief disciplinary prosecutor can be appointed an individual who is a judge or prosecutor or who meets minimum requirements of this Law, person of high moral qualities who is also an expert in legal matters. The chief disciplinary prosecutor is appointed to a four-year tour of duty with possible re-election.
Office of the disciplinary prosecutor (ODP) is an independent body within the HJPC BiH acting upon complaints or own initiative, is responsible for assessment of complaints validity, investigates allegations against judges and prosecutors about abuse of office, instigates disciplinary procedures and represents disciplinary cases before disciplinary commissions HJPC BiH. The chief disciplinary prosecutor is responsible for overall structure, objectives and management of the ODP, maintenance and improvement of independent position, professionalism and effectiveness of the ODP within the Council.
