Judicial trainees Faris Dizdarević (Municipal Court in Sarajevo), Maida Begtašević (Cantonal Court in Sarajevo), and Asmira Šuvalija Martinčević (Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina), represented Bosnia and Herzegovina in the semi-finals of the THEMIS competition, held from July 16 to 19 in Trier, Germany.

Under the mentorship of Alene Kurspahić Nadarević, the chief disciplinary prosecutor of the Office of the Disciplinary Prosecutor, within the Judicial Ethics and Professional Conduct section, they presented a research paper on the topic “Balancing freedom of religion and the need to maintain order and dignity in the courtroom”.

The THEMIS competition, organized by the European Judicial Education Network (EJTN), is designed for judicial trainees and advisors employed in judicial institutions. Its aim is to develop and improve team-working skills and critical thinking through the analysis of concrete cases. This year, 36 teams from 12 EU member states, Moldova, and three Western Balkan countries—Albania, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina—competed.

The team from Bosnia and Herzegovina was supported by the EU4Justice project, which is implemented with the financial support of the European Union The project's aim is to harmonize the judicial system of BiH with European standards by strengthening the independence, effectiveness, responsibility, and efficiency of the judicial sector in BiH.
